Preface
This guide will aid in replacement of the stock mainboard, flashing the stock toolboard to run full Klipper (actually, Kalico), or replacing both the mainboard and toolboard to run full Klipper. Although most components will work wWelcomeith little modification there are some components that currently do not work after replacement of the mainboard or the mainboard and toolboard.
Those components include:
Bed MCU and strain gauge auto bed leveling
Stock touch display
3 pin mainboard fan (works as 2 pin without hardware PWM)
4 pin parts cooling fan if replacing toolhead board (works as 2 pin PWM)
Intended Audience
This guide is intended for anyone that wishes to replace the stock mainboard or stock mainboard and toolhead with common off the shelf boards available through many retailers.
Precautionary Statement
The printer and heated bed are powered by mains voltage, attempting to work on any component while the printer is connected to mains power or powered on risks electric shock or damage to components. To avoid the risk of electric shock or damage to components always disconnect the power before doing any work. This guide although as comprehensive as possible to the subject matter at hand, does not cover howto perform tasks such as soldering, crimping, or use of the Linux command line. Many excellent online resources exist covering each of these topics, and as such are not covered herein. If working with electronics, working with AC/DC voltage, component wiring, soldering, or working through the Linux command line are uncomfortable subjects, this guide may not be appropriate. Though a lot of time has been spent to try and verify the steps contained in this guide, as well as ensuring the printer functionality, there always exists the potential for unforeseen issues to occur that need troubleshooting to resolve.
Warranty Void Statement

Release of Liability Statement
Smart legalese warning, following any of these steps could cause damage to your printer or other property, you do so at your own risk/peril. The authors of this guide can not be held liable for anything that happens due to having followed any of the steps or instructions contained herein.
Components and Tools Needed
Check the other pages for the relevant components required
Optional Components
(Strongly Encouraged) An eddy probe supporting USB, I2C, or CAN protocols for ABL
A smart filament sensor for replacing stock filament runout sensor
Replacement SSR for heated bed.
Tools
Crimp set for JST-XH
Crimp set for ferrules
Wire strippers/cutters
Flush cutters
Should be in the box that came with the printer
Philips head screw driver
M2.5, M3, and M4 Allen Wrench
Soldering iron and flux core solder
Recommended soldering iron: Pine64 Pinecil
Tool for de-pinning JST-XHB connectors
a small precision flat blade screwdriver works well for this.
Initial Preparations
Gather Components
Print required parts
Mainboard mount
Toolhead board mount (If replacing stock toolboard)
Before beginning any disassembly read this entire manual, have the pinout reference for stock board and replacement board(s) for use when rewiring components.
If unsure where a component connects check the appropriate default config located in the appendix for the correct pin.
If using a board other than the verified/tested boards use a comparable pin on the board being used.
If unfamiliar with crimping connectors or soldering take time to research and learn how to properly do both.
Prepare Machine
Unload filament if loaded
Remove the glass top cover and place it to the side.
Remove Bowden tube to prevent damage or bending.
Remove spool holder to prevent damage.
Disconnect mains power
Place something protective on a clean flat surface to prevent scratching or damaging the machine back panel, then gently place the machine on it's back.
Remove the screws holding the bottom panel, then remove the panel. (Note: The feet do not need to be removed in order to remove the bottom panel, only the M3 machine screws need to be removed.)
Tools: M3 Allen Wrench
Optional Components
Eddy Probe
Setup and Configuration
All example configurations are made using the Kalico fork of the Klipper firmware. If you do not install the Kalico fork of Klipper there may be errors when trying to use the example configurations without modification to accommodate using vanilla Klipper. Things such as sensorless homing are setup differently between Kalico and Klipper.
Select appropriate default configuration from Kalico board configurations and replace existing printer.cfg with the new configuration. Make sure to also download any additional includes Save and restart Kalico.
